“Product Development and Marketing for Senior Tourism in Remote EU Regions”

Project “Tourage – Developing Senior Tourism in Remote Region” organizes its 2nd Annual Conference, which will be held on May 21 in Burgas, Bulgaria and hosted by the Regional Governor of Burgas.

 This time international project leaders and experts will discuss the challenges and possibilities of product development process and marketing strategies for Senior Tourism. The topics raised include new innovations and solutions in tourism industry. Also the results of a survey on the needs and habits of senior travelers in remote regions will be presented. Two thematic sessions “Marketing for Senior Tourism” and “Product Development for Senior Tourism” will be organized where the study cases will be discussed and the regions’ good practices deliberated, resulting in an overall conclusions and recommendations for the development of senior tourism in European regions.

The project leaders like to remind that the main objectives of the project “TOURAGE” are to enhance regional economy through the development of senior tourism and to support active and healthy ageing.

Conference brings together a wide range of stakeholders from the tourism sector – tourism companies, tourism organizations and development agencies, as well as authorities and policy-makers in the EU in national and regional level. Annual conferences offer an opportunity to share project results and to introduce good practices on senior tourism that have been identified in the partner regions. They are also a good platform to discuss the role of senior tourism in promoting economic development and employment especially in rural areas.

The presentations held in the thematic sessions during the conference will be uploaded to the project’s webpage where they are available for stakeholders in tourism and the public who want to learn more about senior tourism as a tool for dealing with depopulation, unemployment and other economical regression issues.

About the project:  TOURAGE is a project financed by the European Regional Development Fund and made possible by INTERREG IVC programme. There are 11 partners from Bulgaria, Finland, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Latvia, Poland, Slovak Republic and Spain involved in the project. The Regional Council of North Karelia (Finland) acts as the lead partner. The project aims to inform the responsible personnel of regional authorities, decision-makers, politicians and stakeholders in the welfare and tourism sectors about the challenges and benefits and the future and trends of senior tourism, but above all about the good practices exchanged and deployed. The results gained in this collaboration will be communicated to the rest of Europe and they will promote the development of “The Senior Tourism Model” and provide tools for improving Regional Senior Tourism Policies.
