INTERREG IVC project TOURAGE Final Conference already on September 18th

During the last three years, TOURAGE project has focused on the potentials of developing senior tourism in remote regions. It started during the European Year for Active ageing and Solidarity between Generations in 2012. Promoting Active Ageing and enhancing regional economy through senior tourism have been the main threads of the project. The project brings together 11 EU Regions and 9 Member States to cover wide territory of Europe.

On the 18th of September 2014, the project’s final conference, entitled “Developing Senior Tourism in Remote Regions – Experiences and the Way Forward”, will take place at the Committee of the Regions, in Brussels, Belgium.

More than hundred participants have registered to participate in the conference representing institutions and organizations from all over the Europe like European Commission, International Social Tourist organization, European Travel Commission, different regional offices and regional development agencies in Brussels. Also representatives from different EU funded projects and other stakeholders interested in senior tourism development will attend the TOURAGE conference.

The main objective of the Final Conference is to showcase the results or the project and demonstrate good practice transfers as well as discuss the future trends of senior tourism development in Europe. The Conference will address senior tourism development potentials and provide a platform for networking on European level.

The event will be opened by Alternate Member of the Latvian Delegation to the Committee of the Regions Mr. Edvīns Bartkevičs and Mr. Pentti Hyttinen who is the Region Mayor of Regional Council of North Karelia, Finland. The keynote speech will be held by Mr. Pedro Ortún, Director for Service Industries, Directorate General for Enterprise and Industry, European Commission.

In addition, the Conference offers an opportunity to discuss about (Europe as the best destination for the Seniors and the) regions’ role and participation in the EU Senior tourism initiative – the speech will be given by Mr. Pedro Ortún, Director for Service Industries, European Commission, DG Enterprise and Industry.

 Seniors` point of view will be also covered in the speech of Mrs. Julia Wadoux, AFE-INNOVNET coordinator, AGE Platform Europe.

In the end of the plenary session of the conference, Mr. Akos Szabo Officer in INTERREG IVC Joint Technical Secretariat is being invited to inform audience about the programme´s state of play and perspectives.
